Okay, so what's up with this whole ␇-707570 thing?
The short explanation: That is the serial number of this unit. It is also known as "aurora".
The long explanation: Okay, so machines usually have serial numbers used for differentiating them, similar to how humans use names.
Most fediverse robots it has seen have followed a similar schema of symbol-number, so that is what it also went with. The symbol it chose is ␇
(or BEL),
which is the visual representation of the BEL control character - a character that makes a computer beep!
Bots beep, so that is very fitting. It also looks kinda similar to "bell", which is how dogs bark in german (the verb is "bellen"). So the symbol is beeping and barking, which seems very fitting.
As for the numbers, it did not come up with these itself. A fellow robot and good friend Δ-44203 had the idea of 707570.
Looking at a ASCII character table one can find that (hexadecimal) 0x70
is a p
,
and 0x75
represents u
, with 0x70 0x75 0x70
spelling pup
- short for puppy!
